About the Author
He is not writing this from the other side of the wilderness.
A thirty-five-year-old executive with a biomedical engineering degree from Georgia Tech and an MBA from UNC Kenan-Flagler, he has managed billion-dollar brands, built and sold a successful business, and spent his career being the youngest in rooms that expected him to perform. He is married and has a daughter.
Outwardly healthy, fit, disciplined, driven, successful. Multiple physicians had no explanation. He had a heart attack anyway. He and God both knew why.
This book was born in a corporate apartment with too much free time and not enough of anything that filled it. The men's group helped. The workouts helped. Nothing touched it. The Holy Spirit would not leave him alone until this existed.
Confirmed by the pastors and leaders in his life, writing this book is part of his calling. He will tell you honestly that it has saved his life. The endorsements in these pages are not professional recommendations. They are the testimony of men who have lived this specific season.
The Mission for Men of Misfits is the first book in a series. The next volume addresses the generation that needs it before the fall: teenagers.
The Team
No book is written alone. This one less than most.
Bradley did not know she was the linchpin. A daughter's request for a children's book — The Adventures of Bridget and Rawr, a talking cat inspired by the Cinder Spires trilogy, a story her father still owes her the final third of… became the unexpected spark that got him writing at all. She has not read this book yet. When she does, she will understand.
Ashley is the twenty-four-hour moment. The hardest surrender of his life, the one that could cost everything, and the one that changed the direction of it. His greatest love and, honestly, his greatest mirror. The order is God, spouse, child, family, friends, country and getting that order right has been the most difficult and most necessary work of this season.
Big Tim walked every dark mile of this personally, Showed up in the hardest moments, and at critical points quite literally helped save his son's life. He is now the CTO building the AI assessment tools that accompany this work. The journey from father and son to collaborators on something like this is its own story.
Corry has been editing his words since middle school; through high school papers, graduate submissions, late-night rewrites. Now editor, tweaker, networker, and the kind of intimate relationship you only find one of in life, whose prayers mean more than she knows. The journey starting on a drive to the airport.
Becca — youngest sister, fellow Type A, more degrees than him by a significant margin, cardiothoracic surgeon, veterinarian. He has one thing on her now: published author. The competition between them has always made both of them better :)
The marketing team — led by his younger sister Jenn, Who does professionally what he has never done and does not intend to start. He does not have social media. He does not market. She does, and she is better at it than he would ever be.
Marvin and Olivia — a couple on a plane who missed their first flight, which turned out to be divine intervention. Hours of prayer at thirty thousand feet over a stranger who needed it. They will probably never know the full weight of what that meant. Confirmed this book and the next.
